Acrophobia is basically the fear of height. People fear on being at high altitudes. Phobia means fear. There are lots of phobias that are found in human beings. But acrophobia is something that is different. Vertigo is the head spinning sensation that we feel when we look down from high places. Some people who have high blood pressure will have this problem. This acrophobia is slightly different from the vertigo. People even get scared to climb up heights. It sometimes leads to attack due to the panic. Researchers found that acrophobia was common among some mammals including some of the domestic animals. The degree of fear varies with persons. This acrophobia is often termed as the inborn or the non associative fear. A person suffering from acrophobia relies on visual signals because of inadequate vestibular function or incorrect strategy. Thus transportation in high altitudes requires more than normal visual processing. The visual context gets over loaded resulting in confusion. There are number of studies going on regarding this acrophobia.
